After the Battle of Loos (25th September-mid October, 1915) 19th London along with the rest of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, remained in the Loos sector for the winter of 1915-1916, alternating between periods in the front line with those in support and in rest. Unfortunately the battalion diaries for September and October 1915 are no longer available so it is not possible as yet to give any further information concerning the death of Private Smith other to say that he died of wounds on 21st October
